  • What does the salary actually look like under the CONHESS scale versus private clinics?
  • Can you build an independent private practice, or is this degree primarily a ticket to relocate abroad?
  • What is the real market demand for physiotherapists across Nigerian states today?

From graduation to your first job

Fresh Graduate Reality: What Happens After Physiotherapy?

Graduating is only the beginning. Plan for your internship, professional registration, NYSC and first serious job early.
2026 Physiotherapy job postings Jan–Sep 2026
01

Before your final papers

Start preparing your CV and professional documents before graduation. Build your clinical experience during placements, identify MRTB-approved internship facilities and start tracking Physiotherapy employers you may want to apply to after graduation.
02

Before NYSC

Use the period before NYSC to strengthen your clinical skills, prepare your CV and understand the MRTB registration and internship process. Do not wait until NYSC ends before thinking about your first professional job.
03

Use NYSC strategically

Where to target
Federal Capital Territory 40.2%Lagos 33.0%Enugu 8.0%Edo 3.6%Imo 3.6%
Use NYSC strategically. Where your choices allow, look for placements that give you relevant clinical experience and exposure to hospitals, rehabilitation services or other healthcare settings. Build relationships with professionals and keep evidence of the work you do.
04

During your PPA / service year

Treat your PPA as a chance to build real work experience. Take your clinical responsibilities seriously, learn from experienced Physiotherapists, improve your patient-care skills and keep records of useful projects and responsibilities.
05

Don't wait for POP

Do not wait until POP to start your job search. Begin tracking Physiotherapy vacancies several months before your service year ends and prepare applications for hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centres, sports organisations and other healthcare employers.
What this means
Physiotherapy graduates have a clear professional pathway, but getting the degree alone does not automatically lead to a job. You need to complete the required professional process, build clinical experience and actively search for opportunities.
Common mistakes to avoid
Waiting until graduation to plan for internship or registration; ignoring MRTB requirements; choosing an internship without checking accreditation; relying only on NYSC for employment; and waiting until POP before applying for jobs.

However, do not depend on NYSC alone to secure your first permanent Physiotherapy job.

Check the Federal Scholarship Board, your state scholarship board, your university and reputable scholarship providers for current opportunities.
